Another confusing pattern can occur when someone becomes attentive only when they sense that you are pulling away.

You become frustrated and create distance.

Suddenly, they become affectionate.

They send messages, make promises, talk about the future, or become the version of themselves you have been hoping to see.

You feel reassured and invest again.

Then, once the relationship feels secure, their effort gradually disappears.

The important question is not whether someone can make an effort when they fear losing you.

It is whether they can maintain reasonable effort when they feel confident that you are staying.
